Paola Capriolo outstanding winner of the Elsa Morante Prize

On the 21st of May 2010 a jury of around one thousand students declared Paola Capriolo, the outstanding winner of the Elsa Morante Ragazzi Prize 2010 for her novel "NO" Published by Edizioni EL.

Grossi wins the swl European Campiello Award

Pietro Grossi's novel "fists" won the Great Britain edition of the European Campiello Award. This prize is sustained and organized by The Venetian Campiello-Confindustria foundation and this year was dedicated to contemporary Italian novelists that were translated and published in English in 2009. Grossi's novel was published in Italy in 2006 by Sellerio publishing house and won the Italian literature prize: "Chiara". It was translated by Howard Curtis and published in Britain by Pushkin Press.

The Bologna Children's book fair award

Two friends by Hoda Haddai, published by the Iranian publishing house Shabaviz Publishing received a special mention from the jury during the Bologna-Ragazzi Award. This book came out in Italy in March 2010, published by Terre di Mezzo.

Austrian Government award

On the 24th of February 2010, the SchÖnstes Buch Österrreichs prize, Promoted by the Austrian Government and dedicated to the best Austrian books released in 2009 was awarded. One of the three winners is Kamel bleibt kamel, a collection of Aesop's fables retold by Antonie Schneider, illustrated by Aljosche Blau and published by Residenz Verlag.

Premio Berto 2010

Roan Johnson with his very first book "Prove di felicità a Roma Est", published by Einaudi, “Stile Libero won the XXII edition of the "Giuseppe Berto opera prima" - first novel literature prize.

Assignment of the Montanelli Award

On the 22nd of March 2010, during the fourth edition of the Indro Montanelli prize ceremony held in Milan, Sergio Zavoli won the career tribute award and Stefano Liberti was assigned the prize for young journalists.

The most original cookery book

Papilles et Molécules by François represented by Montreal agency, published by Les Éditions La Presse, won the Gourmand World Cookbook Award which was assigned during the Paris Cookbook Festival, on the 11th of February. It was judged as the most original oenogastronomic book submitted out of all the books published in 126 different countries that competed for this prize.

Prestigious award in Abu Dhabi

The Sheikh Zayed Book Award, an important prize on the Arabic cultural scene, was assigned to the Egyptian publisher Nahdet Misr Publishing and Printing for the "Publishing and Distribution" category. The awards ceremony was held on the 3rd of March 2010 in Abu Dhabi, during the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair.

Tiziano Scarpa wins Strega Prize

Tiziano Scarpa has won the 63rd Strega Prize for his novel Stabat Mater, published by Einaudi. Stabat mater had also garnered the Mondello prize, awarded in Palermo on 5 June this year.

The Strega Prize was founded in 1947 and numbers many authors represented by ALI among its winners, including the first ever recipient of the award, Ennio Flaiano.

Edith Bruck wins Viareggio Prize

Following the award of the 12th Città di Bari Prize and the International Prize for Religious Literature to Edith Bruck for Quanta stella c’è nel cielo (What a lot of stars in the sky), published by Garzanti, this year sees the author add the Viareggio Repaci Prize for Fiction to her collection. Founded in 1929, the Viareggio Prize numbers many ALI Group authors among its winners:

Alberto Arbasino honoured with lifetime achievement award

After picking up the Viareggioterzapagina prize for journalism, Alberto Arbasino has this year also won the first Viaggio in Italia lifetime achievement award, bestowed upon him in Rome by the Italian Geographical Society, as well as the special jury prize for the Arturo Loria award instituted by the municipal authority of Carpi.

Paola Capriolo: six-times finalist
With her work, Il pianista muto (The Dumb Pianist), published by Bompiani, Paola Capriolo has this year been shortlisted for several prestigious literary awards, namely the Recanati Prize, Rapallo Prize, Palmi Prize, Fenice-Europa Prize, Stresa Prize for Fiction and Asti d'appello Prize.

Antonio Moresco wins Premio Napoli award

The Premio Napoli Jury has bestowed the special award for Italian literature on Antonio Moresco, who has completed the third and final part of his novel Canti del Caos (Songs of Chaos), which is now published in a single volume by Mondadori.

Clemens J. Setz: shortlisted for German Book Prize

Clemens J. Setz’s novel Die Frequenzen (Frequencies) has been shortlisted for the German Book Prize 2009.
